Community Involvement

To grow and prosper, communities require care. It is the work of many hands—sharing many talents, many hours, and many gifts. We enrich the entire community by enriching its members. Kevin Miller and the members of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network—Pittsburgh share this commitment to the community in which they live and work, to make it a better place, to make a difference.

"Attire to Inspire" Clothing Drive Benefitting the Wood Street Commons

March 30, 2011 - The Pittsburgh Network Office sponsored a clothing drive to benefit the Wood Street Commons, a non-profit organization dedicated to offering affordable housing for low income individuals and those experiencing homelessness. Staff and financial representatives generously donated professional clothing and attire to give to the residents to wear on job interviews.

For more than two decades, WSC has differentiated itself from other affordable housing options in the area by helping residents stop the cycle of shelter shuffling and promote transition into permanent housing.  40% of our community building residents are or have been afforded permanent housing within our community directly through our Shelter Program.  In fact, WSC serves approximately400  unduplicated individuals each year.  It is the only program of its kind in our region.
